Virtual Event Via Zoom, October 11, 2023
Ying Ma will serve as a moderator for “The Rise of Reparations,” a virtual event taking place on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. PDT/3:00 p.m. EDT.
Just a few years ago, few around the country were discussing the issue of reparations seriously. Today, reparations proposals are proliferating around the country.
Most notably, California’s reparations task force has recommended that the Golden State pay qualifying black residents up to $1.2 million annually as compensation for past discrimination. The figures are fantastical and legislation mandating payment could be unconstitutional.
Speakers for “The Rise of Reparations” will discuss the moral, social, legal, and historical aspects of reparations proposals that have surfaced in California and across the country. This event is brought to you by Defend American Ideals, the Pacific Legal Foundation, and the Pacific Research Institute.
