Should We Ban TikTok?

The House of Representatives recently voted overwhelmingly to ban TikTok unless it is divested from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, within six months. Lawmakers worry that the Chinese government, through TikTok, could get access to vast troves of American data and spread mass misinformation to the American public.

In the latest episode of the “National Insecurity” podcast, Ying Ma and cohost Doug Bandow of the Cato Institute discuss the merits of the proposed ban, the national security risks presented by TikTok’s Chinese ownership, how best to protect the interests of the company’s 170 million users in America, and the irony of the app being popular enough to incur congressional wrath.

The episode is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and other channels. Please like and share widely. Enjoy!
