China Takes Over the World, RTHK, April 5, 2014
President Barack Obama is scheduled to visit Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea and Japan later this month. China’s rise and its territorial disputes with neighbors are expected to be a major focus of Obama’s upcoming trip. What should Obama say to U.S. allies in Asia and how has his China policy fared thus far?
Meanwhile, the Obama administration announced sweeping budget cuts for the U.S. military in February. China, on the other hand, plans to increase its defense budget by 12.2 percent this year. Is the United States sufficiently preparing itself for the rise of Chinese military power? Is China also beginning to challenge U.S. influence in the Middle East?
In its latest episode, China Takes Over the World discusses these issues with the following guests:
- Gordon Chang, Forbes.com contributor; and author, Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes on the World and The Coming Collapse of China
- Paul D. Eaton, retired Major General of the U.S. Army; former Commanding General, Coalition Military Assistance Training Team in Iraq; and Senior Advisor, the National Security Network
Hosted by Ying Ma, China Takes Over the World is a program about China’s growing economic, political and military power. It airs at 8:30 a.m. every Saturday in Hong Kong on RTHK Radio 3, the English channel of the city’s public broadcast station. Previous episodes of the show are available on podcast via iTunes.
